ENERGY TRANSITION. IN FRANCE, THE POWER LIES WITH THE MAYORS

Italy and France belong to the EU, and yet, the EU dictate on energy transition has translated into opposing political actions that, while in France recognise the maximum decision-making power to Local Institutions, in Italy they see the same power centralised in Rome, depriving regions and municipalities of the inalienable right to decide where to install plants (wind/photovoltaic), how many to install and with what capacity.

From the French government, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, head of the Ministère de la Transition ènergètique, from Paris, on 2 June 2023, had sent a communication to mayors recognising their central and decisive role in the authorisation process for ‘renewable energy’ plants.
